Wallpapers Are Printed!

After a couple of weeks working on my designs, tweaking colours, new layouts and considering which ones could go together with my fabric print, I have chosen to print off 9 designs.

I have put them into 3 collections of 3, based on colour and how busy they are. Some are really simple, more like textures, and others more statement, one wall kind of designs.

Since I have my big print I chose just to print off the repeat square of each one. This way I can put a few in my degree show and the others will fit in my portfolio!

Here they are!

Putting Together A Portfolio

Last week I found out I had an interview, great news, but scary at the same time!

I spent quite a few days preparing my portfolio, selecting what to put in it (very difficult!) and mounting everything up. I also did research about the company, where the products are sold, the names of ranges and certain pieces that I liked, you never know what the questions might be!

This was my first proper interview so it was hard to know what a company would expect to see, so I opted for a bit of everything!

My First Commission

A couple of weeks ago I was asked by my tutor to print a piece of fabric for her to make into a skirt!

It was really flattering that somebody likes my work so much and would want to wear it!

I was given some guidance about the design but a few elements were my choice, it was a completely different experience doing something for somebody else and not just for myself, much more thought, planning and care went into it to make sure it was right first time!

Here are some images of the piece stage by stage.

Second Printed Length

This week I have been doing my second print, I have chosen a heavier cotton fabric so I will be able to cut it up and make things from it.

I decided I liked the blocks of colour on their own as a print, and so left one half of the table with just block colours.
The other half has the patterns printed over, but I have tweaked the colours so it all sits together better.

Looking forward to doing some making now!

Back To Work!

After having two weeks off I am back in uni, already feels like I have never been away!

Over the last two days I have managed to complete the second layer of my fabric with all of the patterns printed on.

I am really happy with how it has turned out, none of the pattern detail has been lost and the colours look great.

Even better, because this has taken such a short amount of time I am going to do a second print but change it slightly, getting more use out of my screens!

Now For The Real Thing

After lots of practising and testing, tweaking colours and sampling fabrics....

I have started the final print!

So far I have finished my block colour layer, after the Easter break I will be able to take that off the print table and start on my patterned layer!

Test Print Done...

Heres my print adding in the coloured patterns step by step.

My final won't look like this because it will be on two layers of fabric, the colours will look slightly different.

Theres a few bits that need taking out or adding in that should or shouldn't be there, but nothing that can't be fixed....

Now for the real thing!!

Test Printing

After mixing and testing all my colours on Monday, I began testing and registering all my screens to get them all lined up perfectly, make sure everything was there and that I was happy with all my colours together.

So far I have printed the 4 block colours that will sit together on one piece of fabric, the next step is to print the 4 colours of texture over the top to get them in the right place and test to see if everything is right.

Then I can get on with the final print!
